While doing some research on the net I stumbled upon this mission statement :

“To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete* in the World.” , I found this interesting and no rocket science to make out that this must be mission of some sports equipment manufacturing company . You guessed it right , it's NIKE .

I always like Nike's products , its logo ( swoosh ) and its punch line " Just Do it" , well what impresed me today is a little quote underneath the mision statement i.e

“If you have a body, you are an athlete.”

Don't Live for your Inbox

Monday morning , 9.30am and you have just reached office . First thing you do is log in to your PC / Laptop and click on "outlook" express icon . Just the site of dropping of numerous emails makes you feel "arrived" in the office. Poor those who got VPN access or Blackberry ! they don't even have to wait for the beautiful Monday morning ; they do the same on late Sunday evening.



Emails have become way of corporate life and are every where . " I get 150 emails a day " proudly claims one of my friend.




These days "emails in the inbox" decide how your day would be ! and there are many like my friend who think number of emails you get is what determines your corporate clout.Email is fast , convenient , reliable , cost effective and perhaps the most accepted and are here to stay then why this blog post ?



One and only one reason is try " NO EMAIL DAY" ; Inspiration comes from "No Honking Day" . Intel started this concept as " Zero Email Friday" where they encouraged their engineers to talk to each other.


So tomorrow don't click on that "Outlook" icon on your PC ; Pick up the Phone or Walk up to your colleagues desk .

Horn NOT ok Please !!

Mumbai traffic police is celebrating " NO HONKING DAY " on April 7 , 2008. Well , this is first initiative of it's kind any where in India and what better day than "World Health Day" to celebrate this.

Health experts and environmentalists agree that the link between continual exposure to noise and a host of diseases, including high blood pressure and blood-sugar levels, is well-established.

This is a very thought after initiative and we must observe this religiously and not only on April 7 but always .

HIGH FIVE

I just finished a quick read of " Secrets of Success and Pillars of self - mastery " by Robin Sharma .

Great thoughts , My High 5 would be :

1. Sleep for no more than 6.5 ( Target 6 ) hours and try finish eating 2 ( Target 3 ) hours before sleep.
2. Walk for at least 45 minutes daily , learn swimming and entering half marathon next year.
3. Enhance concentration : Stare at Seconds hand of the watch for 2 minutes and Count my steps while walking
4. Master the art of public speaking
5. Try fasting one day every two weeks.

IT's RAINING RESUMES AT GOOGLE..

Excuse me for writing about Google again , I'm obsessed with this company .

I was reading what makes it so great and happy to learn that It's not only it's ESOP , Free Food , Game Rooms , Massages , Happy Hours ( Thursday , 5PM) and so on. Most of the employees feel happy and satisfied because of it's "Culture" .

But the perks and the playfulness aren't why so many of the world's technophiles pine for a job at Google, named Fortune's 2007 "best company to work for," according to product manager Jonathan Rochelle.
"The perks give you a sense of feeling valued," Rochelle said. "But the most important thing for me is that I have what feels like the right amount of autonomy. I have a very high degree of decision-making power, and that doesn't mean I'm a senior person -- that's just the culture of Google. People take ownership of what they do and make decisions, so things get done quickly. Every day feels like a productive day."

Think through this , and answer this question " Would you like your kids ( when they grow up ) to join the organisation you are working for ? "

In the mean while ....If there's life on other planets, they are probably e-mailing their résumés to Google .
