Short, Dark & Fat !

Dark is beautiful!
‘Dark is beautiful’! Of Course, what big deal! For ages, we have been saying ‘Tall, Dark & handsome’, so what is new around it.

Oh wait, we are talking about women. That ‘Dark’ in Tall, Dark and Handsome was for men. For women, they have to be fair to be pretty, that’s what we have been told, since ages, till now.

Then this campaign ‘Dark is beautiful’ caught my eye. It touches heart I must say, and it is very much required, yes even in these times. Till when we will keep fooling around with euphemisms like ‘wheatish’ for ‘dark women’. Dark is beautiful. Thank You, Nandita Das.

But, why end here. Why the hell one needs to be ‘Tall’. Why not ‘Short is beautiful’ as well. I am really fed up of brands like Complan, Bournvita, Horlicks advocating superiority of tall kids over short and boasting about how their products help kids getting taller. Sick.

Imagine, these ads are shown on kids’ channels. At that tender age, we are seeding them with the notion that being short is not good. May I request Sachin or Aamir to bust the myth and bring this much needed change as well – ‘Short is beautiful’.

Other thing we need to tackle is this notion about being ‘Fat’. I understand obesity can be unhealthy. But why being plump is not beautiful. Boman Irani, can you help please!. (I would have said Sonakshi Sinha, pretty and certainly not thin, but not sure If she also thinks the same).

I wish ASCI does something and ask these companies to not only withdraw these ads but issue apology as well.

Note to my kids, and the kid in me.

Guys, I don't claim to be so successful that I can tell you any success mantra but I am certainly more experienced than you, some 880 million seconds more experienced. So, spare couple of minutes for your old man.

1. We don't live once. We live every day, every hour, every moment. So, it's never too late to start or restart.
2. Listen, and observe. Learn, and keep learning. Travel. Education is just one way to learn, not the only way. Most of your learning will come from listening, observing.
3. Be known for your values. Instead of being known as that tall MBA, prefer to be known as that courageous dude or that honest girl. Pick some values early in life, and stick to it.
4. Failure or success, are part of life. Just remember, never ever let success go into your head or failure into your heart. Both are temporary and shall pass.
5. Money. Do make money, but spend. There's no better use of money. Give! No better joy than joy of giving. Till you start earning, do it with your Dad's money. Trust me, even he doesn't have any better use of money.
6. Passion. Have a passion. Be so passionate about at least one thing that you need not say, it should show.
7. Race. Life is not a sprint, it's not even a marathon but a long walk. No need to compete to be first in your class or to make more money than some one else. Enjoy the run, the music, the scenery. Competitions are inevitable but they hurt. Avoid them, as far as you can.
8. Friends and Family. Make friends and keep them. Be friends with family and treat friends as family.
9. Respect.Treat your elders with respect and love. They may not be always right yet been there where you are now, so let them feel important.
10. Choices. When stuck and you have to choose between what your Mom says or what your Dad says. Listen to both and do what your heart says.

If you don't get what I said, don't bother, have fun.
