Work-Life Balance !- What's that ?

Earlier also i have dwelled upon this topic but lately i have realsied that its actually "worklife balance" is a misnomer , the very concept of work life balance is flawed .

Actaully we don't seek balance between work and life ( for some work can be life ), we seek balance between What we love to do and What we don't love .

Its generally assumed that work is what we don't love but, Is this always true ? Most of the time yes but not always . One of my biggest inspiration seems to be the film indsutry .

Recently I was watching Karan Johar interviewing Abhishek , John , Bobby & Priyanka on his new movie "Dostana" . All four said one thing , " We had great fun shooting for this movie at Miami". While all of them were actually working ,they had fun so if we ask them may be they don't seek what others called worklife balance.

Ask Shahrukh Khan , he also says - " I enjoy what I do" .

So when we say we seek worklife balance , one thing is sure that we agree that we don't enjoy our work that much .

The ideal way is to find what you love doing and try earning your living out of that , if you are not that lucky, try - having friends at work , develop genuine friendship at your workplaces .With freinds around work is less gloomy.

Have fun at work ( while it lasts , did some one say - layoff? )

For Athletes only

While doing some research on the net I stumbled upon this mission statement :

“To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete* in the World.” , I found this interesting and no rocket science to make out that this must be mission of some sports equipment manufacturing company . You guessed it right , it's NIKE .

I always like Nike's products , its logo ( swoosh ) and its punch line " Just Do it" , well what impresed me today is a little quote underneath the mision statement i.e

“If you have a body, you are an athlete.”

Don't Live for your Inbox

Monday morning , 9.30am and you have just reached office . First thing you do is log in to your PC / Laptop and click on "outlook" express icon . Just the site of dropping of numerous emails makes you feel "arrived" in the office. Poor those who got VPN access or Blackberry ! they don't even have to wait for the beautiful Monday morning ; they do the same on late Sunday evening.

Emails have become way of corporate life and are every where . " I get 150 emails a day " proudly claims one of my friend.

These days "emails in the inbox" decide how your day would be ! and there are many like my friend who think number of emails you get is what determines your corporate clout.Email is fast , convenient , reliable , cost effective and perhaps the most accepted and are here to stay then why this blog post ?

One and only one reason is try " NO EMAIL DAY" ; Inspiration comes from "No Honking Day" . Intel started this concept as " Zero Email Friday" where they encouraged their engineers to talk to each other.

So tomorrow don't click on that "Outlook" icon on your PC ; Pick up the Phone or Walk up to your colleagues desk .

Don't live for your Inbox ; Warren Buffet does not even has a computer

Horn NOT ok Please !!

Mumbai traffic police is celebrating " NO HONKING DAY " on April 7 , 2008. Well , this is first initiative of it's kind any where in India and what better day than "World Health Day" to celebrate this.

Health experts and environmentalists agree that the link between continual exposure to noise and a host of diseases, including high blood pressure and blood-sugar levels, is well-established.

This is a very thought after initiative and we must observe this religiously and not only on April 7 but always .
